Great barrier reefs
The great barrier reefs are the largest of coral formations found in the world. The coral reefs are secretions by living organism as found in the sea called colonials. These colonials secrete calcium carbonate skeletons which by tides and waves actions are formed into a variety of structures which are found is found is indo Asian side along Indian ocean and the red Sea. This reef is one of the main attractions in the northern side of Australia and forms a major tourist’s chain. The reefs also serve as a home to some of the vulnerable and endangered species. For example dolphins which are endangered are found in large numbers around this area. Thirty species of whales have been located. Several species of turtles come to net along the shores of Darwin. Salt crocodiles have also been located in the mangrove swamps along the reefs. The changing climate in recent years has meant as a danger to these reefs. When the temperatures rise there is coral bleaching, migration of fishes to other habitats. Water quality has been a problem in recent past which is due to the pollutants from farms. Hence these things must be controlled and looked into to preserve one of the natural sceneries of the world.
